Core Science Analytics, Synthesis, and Libraries (CSAS&L) - Digital Object Identifier (DOI) Service
USGS Core Science Analytics, Synthesis, and Libraries, in collaboration with Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Mercury Consortium, has established this Digital Object Identifier (DOI) service for USGS. To generate the DOIs, users need to prepare citation metadata for their digital content; this includes information about creator, title, and publication date.
DOIs generated using this tool is restricted to USGS and its partners, and/or members of the Mercury Consortium; and is for data that is developed by these organizations only.
Offered through UC3EZID, this service allows data and information providers to generate globally unique, persistent and resolvable identifiers for any kind of digital objects.
Identifiers can be used to cite data in journal articles; several citation formats are possible using these DOIs. To generate the DOIs, users need to prepare citation metadata for their digital content; this includes information about creator, title, publisher and publication date.
Start by making sure there is a web-accessible address such as a temporary landing page or a website before assigning a unique DOI to a digital object, such as data that is intended for long-term storage.
